If you cannot highlight or select text in a PDF, the file might probably be a scanned copy and cannot be edited. How can you tell whether a copy was scanned? Its simple; the alignment of the text will be off, the pages borders wont be in the same place, and some text will be zoomed in more than others.
Your Mac might not be allowing you to highlight text because the Text Selection tool isnt selected, or because your PDF is password-protected. Select Tools Text Selection and then highlight your text as required. If this doesnt work, contact the author of the document to ask them for the password.
Highlight your PDF document online. Select the highlighter tool from the horizontal toolbox located at the top of the PDF editor. Select the desired color of your highlighter tool. Click and drag the cursor to select the text area to highlight, releasing when youve finished.
In the Preview app on your Mac, open the PDF you want to change. Do any of the following: Quickly highlight, underline, or strike through text: Select text, click the down arrow next to the Highlight button , then choose a highlight color, underline, or strikethrough.
The Text Selection tool may not be selected: Choose Tools Text Selection, or click the Show Markup Toolbar button , then click the Text Selection button . The PDF may require a password before you can select or copy text: Choose Tools Show Inspector, click the Encryption Inspector button , then enter the password.
To comment on specific text, select Highlight Text from the dropdown menu. Highlight the text that you would like to comment on, then right-click on the highlight and select Add Note from the dropdown menu. To make a comment not tied to any particular text, select Note from the dropdown menu.
Open your PDF in Acrobat. Click and drag the cursor to select the area of text you want to highlight. A small toolbox will appear above your text. Select the highlighter tool icon and it will automatically highlight your selected text.
The most common reason that you cant highlight PDF documents is because the document doesnt actually contain any real text. Instead, it contains scanned text, which is essentially an image of the text. In this case, you wont be able to highlight, underline, strikethrough, or edit this text in any way.
