A line graph, also known as a line chart or a line plot, is commonly drawn to show information that changes over time. You can plot it by using several points linked by straight lines. It comprises two axes called the x-axis and the y-axis.
The horizontal label across the bottom and the vertical label along the side tells us what kinds of data is being shown. The horizontal scale across the bottom and the vertical scale along the side tell us how much or how many. The points or dots on the graph represents the x,y coordinates or ordered pairs.
Useful graph language: Description The graph from (source) presents data on (title) If we look at this graph on (title) from (source) you can see The y axis (vertical) is and the x axis (horizontal) is (Graph) These lines represent
To describe trends, focus on what is increasing or decreasing compared to some time in the past, e.g. which was a rise of 32 per cent from the previous year. If several categories show the same trend, talk about them together, e.g. customers were moving away from the three physical formats in the chart.
Interpreting Line Charts The changing slope of the line segments emphasizes changes, trends, and patterns. For a single series of data, assess the changes in the line to identify trends and patterns. When you have multiple metrics, compare their lines to determine whether they have the same trend and patterns.
Introduce the graph to your audience by presenting the title and explaining the topic of the graph. Share what the data highlights, including the topic, values and subjects of the research. Its important to introduce this information to the audience so that they understand the rest of the data you share.
20 Graphing Activities For Kids That Really Raise the Bar Make an anchor chart or two. Introduce graphing with a pocket chart. Snack and graph with treats. Use toys to make a pictograph. Graph the water bottle challenge. Measure and graph your thumbs. Take a nature walk. Bowl and graph.
However, all line graphs must have an x-axis (independent variable), a y-axis (quantity of dependent variable), and input data (dependent variables). The data points for each dependent variable are marked on the graph are connected by a line.
A line graph plots data in a single line over time. To describe the graph, follow its progress along the horizontal access and describe whether it goes down, up, or stays the same.
To plot a linear/line graph follow the below steps: Use the data from the data-table to choose a suitable scale. Draw and label the scale on the vertical (y-axis) and horizontal (x-axis) axes. List each item and place the points on the graph. Join the points with line segments.
