so there are several things ive done here to make this easier to read in terms of the data um so what this represents is um astronomical objects from planets to the asteroid belt to voyager 1. um and where weve got this outlier with uh voyager in terms of the numbers um ive tried to make it easy to read by coloring it a different way and ive used a shape here a parallelogram to show the join between the the top axis and the bottom axis in terms of this break here going from 50 to 150 because as ill show you if i were to just put a single chart to display this data um it wouldnt look very good so yeah this this is what were going to try and achieve today a broken access column charts and this is uh one of many methods for displaying data with an outlier so here we go heres our our data so if i just go ahead and insert a column chart to begin with so you can see from the outset this um this outlier here with voyager is making everything else quite skewed i cant really read merc

An axis break is a disruption in the continuity of values on either the y or x axis on a chart. It is also known as a scale break or graph break and is shown on the chart as a wavy line or diagonal line on the axis and on the bars plotted on that axis.
To add an axis break, right-click the part of the segment or axis where you want the break to be inserted, and choose Insert Axis Break from the Format Axis Context Menu. When adding an axis break, the exact position where you right-click a segment or axis determines where the break will be inserted.
