Visual Studio projects have separate release and debug configurations for your program. You build the debug version for debugging and the release version for the final release distribution. In debug configuration, your program compiles with full symbolic debug information and no optimization.
Release vs Debug and it depends on what language you are using, Debug includes debugging information in the compiled files (allowing easy debugging) while Release usually has optimizations enabled. They each define different symbols that can be checked in your program, but they are language-specific macros.
You can then put a breakpoint on that int declaration line, and itll be hit, even in release mode. Then just step up the stack in the debugger back to the function you actually wanted a breakpoint in.
Visual Studio has two default build options, Debug and Release. The release build is the optimized version of your app and it has its associated pdb file. The debug build is the one that you interact with most when youre creating the application.
Open the Property Pages dialog box for the project. For details, see Set C++ compiler and build properties in Visual Studio. Click the C/C++ node.
By default, Debug includes debug information in the compiled files (allowing easy debugging) while Release usually has optimizations enabled. As far as conditional compilation goes, they each define different symbols that can be checked in your program, but they are language-specific macros.
The biggest difference between these is that: In a debug build the complete symbolic debug information is emitted to help while debugging applications and also the code optimization is not taken into account. While in release build the symbolic debug info is not emitted and the code execution is optimized.
The release-ready package contains the same components as the debug APK filecompiled source code, resources, manifest file, and so onand is built using the same build tools. However, unlike the debug APK file, the release-ready APK file is signed with your own certificate and is optimized with the zipalign tool.
In Solution Explorer, right-click the project and choose Properties. In the side pane, choose Build (or Compile in Visual Basic). In the Configuration list at the top, choose Debug or Release. Select the Advanced button (or the Advanced Compile Options button in Visual Basic).
Running an app within a debugger, also called debugging mode, means that the debugger actively monitors everything thats happening as the program runs. It also allows you to pause the app at any point to examine its state and then step through your code line by line to watch every detail as it happens.
