How does PDF signing work?

Sign a PDF. To sign a PDF document or form, you can type, draw, or insert an image of your handwritten signature. You can also add text, such as your name, company, title, or the date. When you save the document, the signature and text become part of the PDF.

How does digital signing work?

When a signer digitally signs a document, a cryptographic hash is generated for the document. That cryptographic hash is then encrypted using the senders private key, which is stored in a secure HSM box. It is then appended to the document and sent to the recipients along with the senders public key.

The signature coming from Formstack will be an image, so we need to setup an image placeholder for the signature. At the bottom of the page, we are going to add a new image (click the little picture icon in the editor). In that popup, we are going to enter {$Signature} in the URL box.
