Today's project involves using a piece of OH one tool steel. Despite the less than ideal workholding setup, the work is taken slowly to ensure accuracy. A 3/8 inch four flute rougher cutter is used to rough out the tool, followed by a tapered end mill for relief on the cutting edge. The forming tool is cut upside down to allow for the relief to be added. Once the shape and relief are achieved, the tool is cut from the parent stock to create a ball shape. To prevent the tool from bouncing around and causing damage, a support block is cut from aluminum to go underneath it.
