Today's project involves using a piece of OH one tool steel to create a forming tool. The workholding method used may not be ideal, but as long as the cutting is done slowly, it should work fine. A 3/8 inch 4 flute rougher is used along with a tapered end mill to create relief on the cutting edge. The forming tool is cut upside down to allow for the use of the tapered end mill. Once the shape and relief are created, it is cut off from the parent stock. The forming tool is designed to make a ball shape, with a support block made out of aluminum to prevent it from bouncing around during cutting.
