Authentication defined Authentication is the process that companies use to confirm that only the right people, services, and apps with the right permissions can get organizational resources. Its an important part of cybersecurity because a bad actors number one priority is to gain unauthorized access to systems.

Authentication is the process of verifying a user or device before allowing access to a system or resources. In other words, authentication means confirming that a user is who they say they are. This ensures only those with authorized credentials gain access to secure systems.
In authentication, the user or computer has to prove its identity to the server or client. Usually, authentication by a server entails the use of a user name and password. Other ways to authenticate can be through cards, retina scans, voice recognition, and fingerprints.
