501(c)(3) Tax-Compliant Donation Receipt Requirements The name of the organization; The amount of cash contribution; A description (but not the value) of non-cash contribution; A statement that no goods or services were provided by the organization in return for the contribution, if that was the case;
The receipt format for donation requirements is as follows: Donor Information: The name, address, and phone number of the donor. Date of Donation: The date on which you donated. Description of the Donation: A description of the type of donation (monetary or non-monetary)
For any contribution of $250 or more (including contributions of cash or property), you must obtain and keep in your records a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the qualified organization indicating the amount of the cash and a description of any property other than cash contributed.
You must prove the donation amount if you want to deduct it with one of these: Receipt. Bank or credit union statements. Canceled checks. Credit card statements.
These documents should include the churchs name, the donation amount, the date of the contribution and a statement confirming whether any goods or services were provided in exchange. Bank statements and checks: Keep copies of bank statements or canceled checks that show the date and amount of each cash donation.
For cash donations, the receipt should mention that cash was received. For noncash donations, a more detailed description of the item or items donated should be included. Multiple items of similar nature can be grouped, such as books, clothing, and decorations.
You should always have the following information on your donation receipts: Name of the organization. Donors name. Recorded date of the donation. Amount of cash contribution or fair market value of in-kind goods and services. Organizations 501(c)(3) status.
