I have a print out here with data that I would like to get into Microsoft Excel, but I definitely dont want to have to manually type that in. Luckily, I can take a picture on either my PC or on my phone, and I can convert that into data, and it works surprisingly well. Lets check out how to do this. Here on my PC, I have a somewhat grainy looking image that I would like to bring into Excel. To bring this image into Excel, up on the top tabs, lets click on the one titled data. Over on the left-hand side, lets select the from picture icon and here we see the option for picture from file. Lets click on that. You can now navigate to where you have the picture on your PC. Ill select this image and over on the right-hand side now, it looks like its analyzing my image and its also preparing my data. I bet its going to do this a lot faster than I could. Its now successfully finished extracting my data, but I notice that a few of these items down below are red.

Sheet protection might prevent users from inserting images. Another reason is when the worksheet is protected. Depending on the settings of the sheet protection, you might not be allowed to edit objects. The solution (or course): Unprotect the sheet.
On the worksheet, select just the cells that you want to lock. Bring up the Format Cells popup window again (Ctrl+Shift+F). This time, on the Protection tab, check the Locked box and then click OK.
Select the cells you want to lock. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, click the small arrow to open the Format Cells popup window. On the Protection tab, select the Locked check box, and then click OK to close the popup.
Normally you can't paste a picture into a protected sheet. However you can if you tick the option 'Edit Objects' in the list Allow all users of this worksheet to... First Unprotect the worksheet then tick Edit Objects before protecting the sheet with the password. Hope that still helps.

The only way to lock an embedded file in excel is to first attach the file as an object in the spreadsheet. Use "insert object" and you can either insert a file or view as an icon. THen move the object wherever you want it. Then right click on the on the object and select format object.
