Limit characters length in a cell Select the range that you will limit date entries with specify character length. Click the Data validation in the Data Tools group under Data tab. In the Data Validation dialog box, select the Text Length item from the Allow: drop down box.
Apply conditional formatting based on text in a cell Select the cells you want to apply conditional formatting to. Click the first cell in the range, and then drag to the last cell. Click HOME Conditional Formatting Highlight Cells Rules Text that Contains. Select the color format for the text, and click OK.
Select a cell for which you want to create custom formatting, and press Ctrl+1 to open the Format Cells dialog. Under Category, select Custom. Type the format code in the Type box. Click OK to save the newly created format.
Then, press the Ctrl + Shift + U keys on your keyboard. This shortcut will instantly convert the text in the selected cells to uppercase letters. If you want to convert text to lowercase letters, you can use the Ctrl + Shift + L shortcut.
Click Home and: For a different font style, click the arrow next to the default font Calibri and pick the style you want. To increase or decrease the font size, click the arrow next to the default size 11 and pick another text size. To change the font color, click Font Color and pick a color.
Use the Font tab in the Format Cells dialog box to control these settings. You can see a preview of your settings by reviewing the Preview section of the dialog box. You can use this same Font tab to format individual characters. To do this, select the characters in the formula bar and click Cells on the Format menu.
In Excel, if you want to bold or underline specific words within a cell, you can just select the words you want and click Home- Bold and Underline under Font tab. Then the specific words will be bold and underlined.
A particular useful and common symbol used in Excel is the dollar sign within a formula. Note that this does not indicate currency; rather, its used to fix a cell address in place in order that a single cell can be used repetitively in multiple formulas by copying formulas between cells.
