Today Im going to show you how to remove stains in Photoshop in Just One Minute! First of all, create a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer. Then, with the help of the hand tool, click on the stain. Take the Hue and the Saturation all the way to the right. Now, play with the range so that only the stain is selected. But, at this point, it doesnt look right. So, were going to move it to the right a little bit. It looks fine! Now, if you extend the range a little bit, it affects the skin. We dont want that. Head back a little! Let me extend it a little bit to the left so that all of the stain is selected. It looks fine. Bring the saturation and the Hue back to normal. In Photoshop, you can spot check the ink coverage of individual pixels. Choose Window Info to display the Info panel. In the Info panel menu, choose Panel Options, and change the Second Color Readout Mode to Total Ink. This will display the total ink percentage for the area under your cursor.
Typically, in CMYK printing, the maximum ink coverage is 340% for coated papers and 280% (or lower) for uncoated papers. The total ink coverage of the black, cyan, magenta and yellow inks must never exceed these values.
If youre working in InDesign you can check total ink in the Separations Preview panel (Window Output Separations Preview). Set the View menu in the panel to Ink Limit, and then adjust the total percentage to your specific output requirements.
A simple way to fix this is in Photoshop, to choose Edit Color Settings. Click on CMYK in working spaces, choose custom CMYK then reduce your total ink limit to 250, choose ok, then ok again. Now convert to cmyk by clicking Image Mode CMYK. Your ink saturation is now at or below 250%.
