TIFF files can be used for: High-quality photographs. TIFFs are perfect for retaining lots of impressively detailed image data because they use a predominately lossless form of file compression. This makes them a great choice for professional photographers and editors.
When editing an image, consider saving it as a TIFF, instead of a JPEG file. TIFF files are larger, but will not lose any quality or clarity when edited and saved repeatedly. JPEGs, on the other hand, will lose a small amount of quality and clarity each time they are saved.
Photoshop can edit both uncompressed and compressed TIFF files, but it may lose some quality when editing compressed TIFF files. Overall, you can edit a TIFF file in Photoshop, but it depends on the file type and compression.
A TIFF, or tagged image file format, is a lossless raster format hailed for its extremely high image quality. Often the format used by professionals in creative industries, these files require a large amount of storage space and are a challenge to share unless zipped or sent using file-sharing tools.
TIFF files are typically uncompressed, so they are larger in size than JPEG files (or JPG files). However, this also means that they have higher quality images. JPEG compression means that they typically take up less space but the image quality is not as good.
If you want to keep the file in this format, but edit it, use the free photo editing program GIMP. Other popular photo and graphics tools can work with TIF files as well, such as Photoshop, but these are often not available for free.
A TIFF is an image file — so it stores photographic and graphical data. You won't be able to edit the original file information without editing software, like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
To update specific links, select one or more links marked with the modified-link icon. To update all modified links, choose Update All Links from the Links panel menu, or select a modified link and Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac OS) the Update Link button.
Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a website's loading speed.
