TIFF FILE FORMAT Unlike JPEG, TIFF files can have a bit depth of either 16-bits per channel or 8-bits per channel, and multiple layered images can be stored in a single TIFF file.
Tiff files are designed for high-quality publications, and therefore normally are saved at higher resolutions, usually 150-300 ppi.
Is TIFF better than RAW? There isnt one type of file thats better than the other they simply have different uses. If youre going to do heavy editing, its better to shoot in RAW. But if youre going to be sharing the file, then its a good idea to convert it to a TIFF.
If you have access to exiftool command the tag to look for is the : Bits Per Sample. Yes, Exiftool tells me these TIFF files are all 16-bit.
1-bit TIFF or Esko LEN are formats that represent the images pixels (the elements to engrave on the plates) in the binary code, with 2 information only: on/off. These files are generated by a RIP and used for the imaging of flexo plates.
Convert Mov To Tiff Download and the latest version of Filestar. Right click on one or more Mov file(s) on your desktop and select Convert with Filestar. Type convert to tiff in the search box. Press Convert.
Re: Tiff 8bit vs 16 bit - what is the difference? The 16-bit tiff retains all of the RAW data to give you postprocessing latitude until you finalize the result for 8-bit (per channel or 24-bit total) presentation. This is useful especially if you need to do substantial corrections for color balance, exposure, etc.
The very popular JPEG format typically saves images with a precision of 8 bits per channel, using three channels, for a total of 24 bits per pixel. The TIFF format supports various bit depths, for example 32 bits per channel for a total of 96 bits per pixel.
