Captions should be concise but comprehensive. They should describe the data shown, draw attention to important features contained within the figure, and may sometimes also include interpretations of the data. Figures are typically read from the bottom up, so captions go below the figure and are left-justified.
Click References Insert Caption. To use the default label (Figure), type your caption in the Caption box.
In Excel 2010 you have to go to the Labels group on the Layout tab and click the Axis Title button. From Axis Title options choose the desired axis title position: Primary Horizontal or Primary Vertical. In the Axis Title text box that appears in the chart, type the text that you want.
Click File Options Formulas. , click Excel Options, and then click the Formulas category. Under Working with formulas, select or clear Formula AutoComplete.
Select the worksheet. Click the Page Layout tab. To show gridlines: Under Gridlines, select the View check box. To hide gridlines: Under Gridlines, clear the View check box.
Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Chart Title, and then click the title option that you want. Type the title in the Chart Title box. To format the title, select the text in the title box, and then on the Home tab, under Font, select the formatting that you want.
Tip: You can also click the first row heading, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+END.
