Non-lead ammunition consists of solid copper or copper alloys (90-95% copper and 5-10% zinc) and is available in a large variety of calibers and bullet weights for rifle, shotgun and muzzleloader.
TECHNIQUES FOR BULLET SWAGING, I.E. THE FORMING OF CUSTOM-DESIGNED BULLETS THROUGH USE OF HIGH PRESSURE AND COLD-FLOWING METAL, ARE DESCRIBED FOR NOVICE AND PROFESSIONAL BULLETMAKERS.
Swaging is the opposite of drawing. When you DRAW a bullet or jacket, you push it through an open ring die that reduces the size. When you SWAGE a bullet, you expand it to a slightly larger size in a pressure-sealed die. You can draw down, but you always swage up.
Most major ammunition manufacturers have introduced non-lead options over the past decade or two. Browning, Federal, Winchester, Sig Sauer and Hornady all offer proven non-lead cartridges, and there are plenty of others, big and small.
Derived from the Old French word swage, swaging is a forging process that involves the use of compressive forces to deform and manipulate the shape of a workpiece via a die. During this forging process, a worker forces the workpiece through a die. As the workpiece is pushed through the die, it takes the dies shape.
Swaging a bullet is forming it under pressure as opposed to heat used in casting. You can take a lump of lead and form it into a bullet by putting it in a die and pressure forming it.
Bullet swaging is a method of using pressure to form a bullet, which is the inert metal portion of the cartridge (which becomes a projectile when fired) by using pressure to flow the materials at room temperature. Unlike casting, no heat or molten metal is used.
A bullet will accelerate until it leaves the barrel, typically around Mach 3. It will then immediately start decelerating at slightly more than 10 metres per second per second - gravity and air resistance will slow it down. At some point high in the air (work it out yourself) the bullet will stop and begin falling.

Id argue that on all fronts, lead-free ammo is as good as, if not a better option, in most situations. Lead bullets are effective because lead is heavy and malleable - it hits something and it deforms. In most of the new rounds, copper is often used as the lead substitute, which is much harder.
