The XLS file extension is used for files saved as Microsoft Excel worksheets. Excel is a popular spreadsheet program used with data like numbers and formulas, text, and drawing shapes.
On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Object. Click the Create from File tab. Click Browse, and select the file you want to insert. If you want to insert an icon into the spreadsheet instead of show the contents of the file, select the Display as icon check box.

Protect a sheet Select Review Manage Protection. To turn on protection, in the Manage Protection task pane, select Protect sheet. By default, the entire sheet is locked and protected. Optionally, to require a password to edit a range, select Range password, enter and confirm the password, and then select Save.
Press Shift + Tab to go to the Attachments area. With the chosen attachment selected (arrow right to find more attachments), press the Applications key (or Shift + F10). Arrow down to Save as (or Save All Attachments to save them all in one go) and press Enter.
