The more expensive models, such as the Da Vinci model, will cost more to fine-tune than the cheaper models, such as the Curie model. Assuming you use a data set of 200,000 examples and training iterations of 10, the cost to fine-tune GPT-3 would be about $200.
Along with its high dimensions, the cost of training GPT-3 is over 4.6 million dollars using a Tesla V100 cloud instance [source] and training times of up to 9 days. Currently, one of the biggest concerns is that of how many resources have been invested into training such a model.
Start with 300 epochs. If this overfits early then you can reduce epochs. If overfitting does not occur after 300 epochs, train longer, i.e. 600, 1200 etc epochs.
Fine-tuning a BERT model On this page. Setup. pip packages. Import libraries. Resources. Load and preprocess the dataset. Get the dataset from TensorFlow Datasets. Preprocess the data. Build, train and export the model. Build the model. Restore the encoder weights. Optional: BERT on TF Hub. Optional: Optimizer configs.
There are three steps involved in fine-tuning GPT-3. Prepare the training dataset. Train a new fine-tuned model. Use the new fine-tuned model.
Fine-tuning in GPT-3 is the process of adjusting the parameters of a pre-trained model to better suit a specific task. This can be done by providing GPT-3 with a data set that is tailored to the task at hand, or by manually adjusting the parameters of the model itself.
The model will take around two hours on GPU to complete training, with just 1 epoch we can achieve over 93% accuracy on validation, you can further increase the epochs and play with other parameters to improve the accuracy.
Figure 1: Training time for GPT-3 models as a function of # GPUs. As we scale up GPU count, we see near-linear strong scaling in the time-to-train. For example, training the 1.3B model on 1B s takes 7.1 hr on 1 node (8xA100), and 0.5 hr on 16 nodes (128xA100), which is a 14.4x speedup on 16x GPUs.
5 Data points. Or 5 billions data points. Or 1000 per person. Or at least 200 per item.
The right number of epochs depends on the inherent perplexity (or complexity) of your dataset. A good rule of thumb is to start with a value that is 3 times the number of columns in your data. If you find that the model is still improving after all epochs complete, try again with a higher value.
