Now lets say you wanted to search for some text inside of TextEdit. Easy enough. You can choose Edit and then Find, or use Command F, and search for the text. It will find it for you in the text. You can use these little arrows here to jump to each one and hit Done to exit. But suppose you wanted to find something more complex. Theres actually a way in TextEdit to find some complex data. Its called Insert Pattern. Its part of the Find function. So Im going to do Command F for Find and clear it out. Then Im going to use this little magnifying glass here and you can see I have some options. I can Ignore Case, Wrap Around during my search. That kind of thing. Starts With, Full Word, all sorts of stuff. Now theres also something called Insert Pattern. Lets select that and we get this second menu here. We can see that theres a whole bunch of special stuff in here. At the bottom theres some very special things like finding an email address. Lets select that. We can see that it fou

Find and replace text in a TextEdit document. In the TextEdit app on your Mac, choose Edit Find Find, then type text in the search field. You can also select text, then choose Edit Find Use Selection for Find.
Create text replacements On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. Click Text Replacements on the right. Click the Add button in the dialog that appears, type the text to replace (such as teh) and its replacement (such as the), then click Add. Click Done.
