Press Ctrl + F (or Command + F on a Mac) to open the search bar within the browser or PDF reader, and then enter the keyword you want to search for within the PDF.
However, we must note that PDF is a binary format, and plain text search commands such as grep and sed will not work as expected on PDF files.
One of the main reasons why PDFs are not searchable is that they dont include any text. The PDF may be a scanned document or just an image-based document. If thats the case, then there is no searchable text. You can read the text within the image-based document, but the PDF tool cannot.
The best way to find files with required text string in Linux is grep utility. It is built-in tool in all modern Linux operation systems. Most probably that you dont need to it cause it is exist. But even if not - you can this tool anyway.
How To Search for a Word in a PDF Using Any PDF Reader Open any PDF with your default PDF reader. Press CTRL+F (Windows) or CMD+F (Mac). In the text box, enter your search term. The first match will be highlighted. Press Enter or click the right arrow to navigate between the results.
Method 1: grep command. grep command in Linux that is used to search for files containing a specific text or string. By default, it shows us the lines in the files that contain the particular text. If we append the -l option to it, the command will show us all the files that contain the particular text.
To find and replace text in a single PDF, select the magnifying glass in the menu bar or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+F on a PC and Command+F on a Mac) to open the Find toolbar.
