thanks for joining us today uh this is a atg webinar and the topic of choice for today is back to basics feature lines ive had a lot of questions lately not as far as complex future lines and how to get them tied in to different things but just whats feature lines and how they work and just the basic ax aspect of just creating them and how to edit them and how to uh change the elevations so that is kind of the topic today my name is jeff haney im a senior civil technical specialist here and if you guys have questions uh after the class of course in this particular part just send me a email jhaney atgusa.com be more than glad to answer whatever questions that you might have so like i said todays topic is a pretty pretty simple on this one but a lot of maybe a lot of new people trying to get in or people who dont know civil 3d yet and theyre trying to just figure out what feature lines are so were going to talk about how to create them and how to edit them and um kind of go over

You can create a feature line by converting existing 2D or 3D polylines, lines, or arcs. You can select objects in the current drawing or from an Xref. Feature line elevations can be obtained from a surface and can also be relative to a surface, so if the surface is updated, the feature line is updated.
Use the Break command to break a feature line into two feature lines. The prompts for this command are similar to the AutoCAD Break command.
Edit geometry tools 2 Select blue feature line. Contextual ribbon Edit Geometry panel Edit Curve. Select feature line curve to edit or [Delete]: Click feature line curve. Radius: 87 Apply OK.
To Offset a Feature Line by Distance and Elevation Click Home tab Create Design panel Feature Line drop-down Create Feature Line From Stepped Offset Find. Do one of the following to specify the location for the offset: Do one of the following: Select another object to offset, or press Enter to end the command.
To insert a feature line elevation point by selecting a location Click Modify tab Edit Elevations panel Insert Elevation Point Find. Select the feature line or other object. Click to select the location along the feature line to insert the elevation point. Specify the elevation by entering a value.
Feature lines are 3D objects which can be used as grading footprints, surface breaklines, and as corridor baselines.

Click Modify tab Edit Elevations panel Raise/Lower Find. Select the feature line or other objects to edit. Enter the elevation difference by which to raise or lower the feature lines. The default elevation difference is 1.0.
