thanks for joining us today uh this is a atg webinar and the topic of choice for today is back to basics feature lines ive had a lot of questions lately not as far as complex future lines and how to get them tied in to different things but just whats feature lines and how they work and just the basic ax aspect of just creating them and how to edit them and how to uh change the elevations so that is kind of the topic today my name is jeff haney im a senior civil technical specialist here and if you guys have questions uh after the class of course in this particular part just send me a email jhaney atgusa.com be more than glad to answer whatever questions that you might have so like i said todays topic is a pretty pretty simple on this one but a lot of maybe a lot of new people trying to get in or people who dont know civil 3d yet and theyre trying to just figure out what feature lines are so were going to talk about how to create them and how to edit them and um kind of go over

3D polylines are a core AutoCAD entity, Features lines are a C3D object. 3D polylines do not support arcs, Feature lines do. 3D polylines do not have any specific tools for editing, Feature lines do. 3D polylines will not display linetypes other than continuous, Feature lines do.
To display crossing elements, simply select a profile view and choose Add Crossings to Profile View from the contextual ribbon. You can then select your desired entities. (Supported entities include: Feature Lines, Survey Figures, 3D Polylines, Alignments and Profiles.)
They are joined if they lie within the tolerance distance set in JoinFeatures command settings. Click Modify tab Edit Geometry panel Join . Select the feature line you want to join other lines to. Select the joining object or enter Multiple to make a selection of multiple feature lines, polylines, or 3D polylines.
Use the Break command to break a feature line into two feature lines. The prompts for this command are similar to the AutoCAD Break command. Click two points to specify both sides of the break.
