On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Gridlines. Do one or more of the following: For horizontal gridlines, click Primary Horizontal Gridlines, and then click the option that you want. For secondary horizontal gridlines, click Secondary Horizontal Gridlines.
Click the worksheet that is displayed with a sheet background. Make sure that only one worksheet is selected. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Delete Background. Delete Background is available only when a worksheet has a sheet background.

If gridlines dont appear when you preview or print the sheet, on the File menu, click Page Setup. Then on the Sheet tab, make sure that the Draft quality check box is not selected. If gridlines dont print, there may be an issue with your printer driver.
Click the Format menu, and then click Cells. In the Format Cells dialog box, click the Fill tab.Format the selected cells using the following options: In the Background color box, select a color. In the Pattern color box, select a color for the lines of the pattern. In the Pattern style box, select a pattern.
In one case, the dotted lines that appear between cells represent the page break. Unlike Microsoft Word or PowerPoint with clear page breaks, Excel only consists of a continuous range of cells. Here, the page break is presented by the dotted line.
Select the worksheet. Click the Page Layout tab. To show gridlines: Under Gridlines, select the View check box. To hide gridlines: Under Gridlines, clear the View check box.
