You can use the following steps; Go to View tab. Select Draft view option. Go to References tab. Select Show Notes (Word document will be divided into two parts. Select Footnote Separator from the dropdown list. And now, there is the separator line that you want to change the length property.
Why Are My Footnotes Moving to Another Page in Microsoft Word? If your footnotes keep moving to another page in Word, its because the contents of the footnote are too large for your pages footer. Your page margins might be too small or the font size might be too big.
First I suggest you click Expansion arrow of Footnotes group choose Below text for Footnotes Apply. Then chose the last line of main text Right click, select Paragraph In the Paragraph dialog box, click the Indents and Spacing tab, and make sure that Spacing After is set to zero.
To keep footnotes on the same page in Word: Open your Word document. Select your footnote near the page footer. Right-click the footnote and select Paragraph. Select the Line and Page Breaks tab. Click to enable the Keep lines together checkbox.
An easy way to add space between the text and the note is to set the keep options of the paragraph just above the note. The idea is to count the number of lines of the paragraph that are in the next text frame, add one, and let that be the number of lines to keep together at the end of the paragraph.
The cause can be the first paragraph in next page is too long to be kept together on the footnote page. Or Keep with next is applied to this paragraph. Therefore, an empty area remains.
To keep footnotes on the same page in Word: Open your Word document. Select your footnote near the page footer. Right-click the footnote and select Paragraph. Select the Line and Page Breaks tab. Click to enable the Keep lines together checkbox.
Add footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to add the footnote. Click Insert Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text.
Use the Footnotes pull-down menu and select Footnotes Separator. Then Right Click on the bar and choose Paragraph from the contextual menu that displays. Check/adjust the Spacing Before and After settings for the Footnote Separator in this dialog where I have highlighted.
