PDF is by far one of the most popular file types and you might have some data hidden away in a PDF that youd like to analyze in Microsoft Excel. Unfortunately, its not incredibly intuitive for how you could take data from a PDF and bring it into Microsoft Excel. It turns out its pretty easy to do, and Im going to show you step-by-step how you can get your data out of a PDF into an Excel file. All right, well why dont we jump on the PC and get started here? Here I am on my PC, and I have a PDF file sitting on my desktop and Id like to bring the data into Excel to analyze it. Lets take a quick look at whats in the PDF. I have the PDF file open and its a fairly typical PDF. I have an image at the top. I have some text below it, and then heres the portion of the PDF that I want to bring into Excel. The easiest way to create lists in PDF content is to format them properly using list markup in the authoring tool, for example, Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Writer. However, if you do not have access to the source file and authoring tool, you can use Acrobat Pros TouchUp Reading Order tool and the Tags panel.
To include a table of contents in a PDF Open the document in the Document Editor. From the Format menu, select Document Properties. Click Table of Contents. Select the Include Table of Contents check box. If the document contains multiple layouts, the Before layout drop-down list is available.
Choose Listbox from the dropdown and click on Select. Move your mouse cursor anywhere on your document and left-click to place the box. The Listbox option will remain active until you click it again. This lets you place multiple fields at once.
Use the Select tool and mark the content to save. Right-click the selected text and choose Export Selection As. Select a format from the Save As Type list and select Save.
Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while clicking a button to display the Bullets And Numbering dialog box. Choose Bullets And Numbering from the Paragraph panel or Command panel. For List Type, choose either Bullets or Numbers. Specify the settings you want, and then click OK.

Open the PDF in Acrobat and select Convert from the top tools bar. Alternatively, from the All tools menu, select Export a PDF. It displays the Convert panel with various formats to which you can export the PDF file.
