To encrypt a PDF on a Mac, right-click or hold ctrl and click on the PDF and select open with preview. Navigate to the file menu in the top left and select export, make sure to save the new PDF in the same location as the old version. Check the encrypt box, enter your desired password, and click save then replace. Your PDF will be replaced with an encrypted version that requires a password to view.
