Exporting an NFS file system Verify that NFS is already running by typing the command lssrc -g nfs . At a command line, type the following and press Enter: Specify appropriate values in the PATHNAME of directory to export, MODE to export directory, and EXPORT directory now, system restart or both fields.
NFS clients can use the showmount -e command to see a list of exports available from an ONTAP NFS server. This can help users identify the file system they want to mount. Beginning with ONTAP 9.4, ONTAP allows NFS clients to view the export list by default.
The basic syntax for the export command is straightforward: # export [options] [name[=value] ] This basic syntax allows you to set environment variables that will be inherited by child processes initiated by the current shell.
Every file system being exported to remote users with NFS, as well as the access level for those file systems, are listed in the /etc/exports file. When the nfs service starts, the /usr/sbin/exportfs command launches and reads this file, passes control to rpc.
NFS allows a system to share directories and files with others over a network. By using NFS, users and programs can access files on remote systems almost as if they were local files.
NFS Client Configuration An alternate way to mount an NFS share from another machine is to add a line to the /etc/fstab file. The line must state the hostname of the NFS server, the directory on the server being exported, and the directory on the local machine where the NFS share is to be mounted.
Using the showmount Command The showmount command provides information about NFS exports on a server, including the version of NFS being used. Further, it provides various options that are useful for obtaining more detailed NFS export data like the protocol version.
