hey everybody this is Paul today Im going to be showing you how to expand the logarithm so this is lesson 10 in my tutorial on logarithms and up till now Ive been showing you properties of logarithms and now Im going to show you how to use those properties to expand an expression so if we have log base 3 of x squared Y to the third divided by Z and we want to use properties of logarithms to stretch out the statement to make it basically a longer form we can use the properties Ive been talking about in my previous videos so one of the properties I explained to you is that when we have a logarithm of a fraction then thats equal to the logarithm of the numerator minus the logarithm of the denominator so lets go ahead and write that out here so log base 3 of all this stuff is equal to log base 3 of the numerator so our numerators was on top x squared + y to the 3rd n minus log base 3 of our denominator and the denominator is whats on bottom which is our Z so weve expanded this a l

To expand logarithms, write them as a sum or difference of logarithms where the power rule is applied if necessary. Often, using the rules in the order quotient rule, product rule, and then power rule will be helpful. To simplify logarithms, write them as a single logarithm.

When you are asked to expand log expressions, your goal is to express a single logarithmic expression into many individual parts or components. This process is the exact opposite of condensing logarithms because you compress a bunch of log expressions into a simpler one.
