You can lock a PDF or image so that it cant be edited or deleted. If you own a locked document, you can edit the document after unlocking it. Others can change the documents contents only by creating a duplicate of the document and editing the duplicate.
If you want to make extensive changes to a file signed by someone else or annotate, sign, or convert a locked (read-only) file, your best option to edit a digitally signed PDF is to contact the person who signed it and request the signature to be removed, receive an unsigned copy of the file, or to have them send you
A user-locked PDF simply means that as the user, youll need a password to view the contents. An owner-locked PDF means that you need a password to modify the document in any way. This can include copying, printing, or other forms of editing.
By default, all Signed PDF files are sealed with a randomized password so they cannot be modified. Enterprise-tier customers can submit a support ticket to request that a known password be added to the account as the PDF-sealing password.
When you sign a PDF using your digital ID, the PDF becomes read-only for others. If you received a PDF digitally signed by others, you can sign it, but cant edit it. While signing a PDF, if the signer chooses to lock the document after signing, the document becomes read-only for everyone, including the signer.
An e-signature or electronic signature is an efficient and legal way to get electronic documents signed quickly. Secure and trusted around the world, e-signatures can replace a handwritten signature in many processes.
Click the Lock icon in the upper-left corner of the page. Click the link labeled: Permission Details. In the Security Method drop down, select: No Security. Enter your unlock password and click the OK button three times.
Encrypt a PDF or PDF Portfolio with a certificate For a single PDF or a component PDF in a PDF Portfolio, open the PDF. Choose Tools Protect More Options Encrypt with Certificate. At the prompt, click Yes. In the Certificate Security Settings dialog box, select the document components to encrypt.
