Use the following guidelines: Always put the address and the postage on the same side of your mailpiece. On a letter, the address should be parallel to the longest side. All capital letters. No punctuation. At least 10-point type. One space between city and state. Two spaces between state and ZIP Code.
Since our caller works for the U.S. government, and ZIP codes are a government thing, I checked the US Printing Office style guide first. It recommends ZIP Code. Associated Press style is similar: ZIP codetwo words with ZIP in all capsbut it uses a lowercase C, and I was surprised it would deviate.
Your ZIP+4 is a basic five-digit code with four digits added as an extra identifier. It helps to identify a geographic segment within the five-digit delivery area, such as a city block, a group of apartments, an individual high-volume receiver of mail, or a post office box.
ZIP Codes are numbered with the first digit representing a certain group of U.S. states, the second and third digits together representing a region in that group (or perhaps a large city) and the fourth and fifth digits representing a group of delivery addresses within that region.
So what do the extra numbers mean? These last 4 digits represent specific delivery routes within delivery areas. This extra detail means an even more precise matching to a more granular level. It could represent a handful of houses on one side of a street, or even a single building that receives a high volume of mail.
Place the city, state, and ZIP Code in that order on the last line. This must be the last line. Never place an attention line, telephone number, or other entries after the ZIP Code line. The attention line should be placed at the top.
Invalid zip code error is displayed when attempting to process a payment from your customer with a billing address outside the U.S. They may have a ZIP code (or Province code) that includes characters that do not meet the U.S. 5 digit standard.
The letters ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan. The letters are written properly in capital letters. The word ZIP was chosen to suggest that the mail travels more efficiently, and more quickly, when senders use it. The basic ZIP code is made up of five numbers.
Try our demo today. Its important to note that the ZIP+4 codes are only appended to the original 5-digit USPS Zip Code after the address has been validated and standardized. Why do these added 4 digits matter? These additional appended numbers help to ensure the quickest and most accurate mailing process possible.
The first two digits indicated the postal districts and the last two for the postal sectors. The six-digit postal code consists of two parts: the last two digits (sector code) of the old four-digit postal code, followed by four new digits representing the delivery point within the sector.
