Were going to be looking at how to read parse and write CSV files now if you dont know what CSV files are it stands for comma separated values basically CSV files allow us to put into a plain text file Some data and use some type of delimiter usually a comma to separate the different fields now I have a sample CSV file here that we can work with and if we look at this then we can see how these are Usually structured so this can kind of look like a mess, but its not really meant to be read directly This is just how the data is stored And then we can use our programs to parse out the information that we want, but we can see that the top Line here has our fields now our fields in this file are first name Last name and email so that tells us the information that we should expect to see on every line so if I go to the next line here then we can see that John is the first name and then a comma though is the last name and then a comma and

A CSV is a text file, so it can be created and edited using any text editor. More frequently, however, a CSV file is created by exporting (File Export) a spreadsheet or database in the program that created it.
To avoid formatting change on CSV, you first need to set data format manually. Activate the Insert tab in the Ribbon. Click From Text/CSV in the Get Transform Data section. Select your file. Move to the Step 3 by Next. In the 3rd step, select the columns where youd like to keep the formatting.
There are no specified limits of what characters can be used in a CSV file. What limits you is how your file is encoded. If you recall from our article on choosing the right encoding, UTF-8 is the recommended file encoding, due to its vast support of just about any character possible.
There are two commonly used text file formats: Delimited text files (.txt), in which the TAB character (ASCII character code 009) typically separates each field of text. Comma separated values text files (.csv), in which the comma character (,) typically separates each field of text.
