now decimal or base 10 binary or base 2 and hexadecimal base 16 are all positional numeral systems they use a set of symbols or characters to represent numbers base 64 is similar in the sense that it deploys a set of 64 symbols to represent values but its not really used arithmetic Li rather it is generally deployed in computer software for encoding binary data so when we say base 64 we usually mean by 64 encoding the standard base 64 character set generally consists of the uppercase alphabet a lowercase alphabets all the numbers a plus sign and a forward slash a total of 64 symbols by 64 encoding is the operation of converting data into ascii text format so that it can be transmitted in a text stream or held in an XML document for example typically the input is binary data containing non-printable characters so conversion to ASCII is required before it can be sent as an email attachment for example the weight by 64 works is by successively taking three characters of input and conver

To decode a file with contents that are base64 encoded, you simply provide the path of the file with the --decode flag. As with encoding files, the output will be a very long string of the original file. You may want to output stdout directly to a file.
Base64 uses 6-bit characters grouped into 24-bit sequences. For example, consider the sentence Hi\n, where the \n represents a newline. The first step in the encoding process is to obtain the binary representation of each ASCII character. This can be done by looking up the values in an ASCII-to-binary conversion table.
Base-64 maps 3 bytes (8 x 3 = 24 bits) in 4 characters that span 6-bits (6 x 4 = 24 bits). The result looks something like TWFuIGlzIGRpc3Rpb.
See the following steps using Pythons Request module. First lets import the base64 module and convert our username and password into a base64 encoded byte string. You can see above that we can create a byte string using the . encode(ascii) function on our authstr object.
Base64 is not an encryption, it is an encoding. Its role is to make sure the password can be stored in the database nicely and special characters arent a problem. It does nothing to protect the password. From security standpoint, it is exactly the same as storing it without any encoding.
Client side The username and password are combined with a single colon (:). The resulting string is encoded into an octet sequence. The resulting string is encoded using a variant of Base64 (+/ and with padding). The authorization method and a space character (e.g. Basic ) is then prepended to the encoded string.
How Does Base64 Encoding Work? Take the ASCII value of each character in the string. Calculate the 8-bit binary equivalent of the ASCII values. Convert the 8-bit chunks into chunks of 6 bits by simply re-grouping the digits. Convert the 6-bit binary groups to their respective decimal values.
Its a way of representing binary data using only printable (text) characters. See this paragraph from the wikipedia page for HTTP Basic Authentication: While encoding the user name and password with the Base64 algorithm typically makes them unreadable by the naked eye, they are as easily decoded as they are encoded.
Encode password to Base64 format Simply enter your data then push the encode button. To encode binaries (like images, documents, etc.) use the file upload form a little further down on this page. Destination character set.
Another important distinction is that base 64 does not encrypt any information it uses a standard table of characters to encode and decode information. In other words, any base-64 string can be decoded, as long as the string was encoded using a standard set of characters (which the decoder can also understand).
