What does embedding a font mean? Embedding fonts ensures that all font information in your document is secured in your PDF. This means that when it is opened on a different device, it looks the way you intended.
Word can only embed fonts on your system that have been installed in the TTF format. If your font files are in the OTF format, you can't embed them in Word documents.
Find the appropriate font family and double-click it. Then right-click the specific font you're interested in and select Properties in the pop-up menu. In the Properties panel, select Details and have a look at the value of the Font embeddability property. The value should be "Installable" or "Editable".
Embedding fonts into your document ensures that all of the font information used in the file is stored in it. This means it is easily referenced across devices, even if a particular device does not have the fonts installed. The font will be locally available on the device's computer while the file is opened.
Some Office apps let you embed fonts in your documents. That way, if you share your document with someone else who doesn't have the same fonts installed that you do, the fonts, layout, and styling of the document won't change, and special characters won't turn into meaningless rectangles.
