A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor light source that emits light when current flows through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons.
That is because it is harder for the eye to focus blue sharply. Different wavelengths of light (i.e. different colors) have different refractive indexes as they pass through the eyeball to the retina. Our eyes can easily focus on fine details in red or green light. But our retinas cant handle blue light very well.
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current flows through it. When current passes through an LED, the electrons recombine with holes emitting light in the process.
Today, magnesium-doping of nitride remains the basis for all commercial blue LEDs and laser diodes. In the early 1970s, these devices were too dim for practical use, and research into nitride devices slowed.
The chief difference is that OLEDs typically deliver better black levels while quantum dot displays enable higher color purity. In fact, the latest quantum dot displays are capable of reproducing as much as 93% of the visible colors in nature, while OLEDs are currently replicating a maximum 75% of the Rec.
LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are small, bright, power-efficient lights commonly used in electronic products. An LED light is a polarized part, meaning it has to be connected to a circuit in a certain way to work properly.
Quantum dots are used in the research laboratory and in commercial applications for their bright, size-tunable luminescence.
Effect of Size The size of a quantum dot is inversely proportional to the band gap energy level, and therefore alters the frequency light emitted and has an effect on the color. Smaller dots emit higher energy light that is bluer in color, whereas larger dots emit lower energy red light.
Quantum Dots on LEDs promise to change the display and lighting industries by replacing broad-emitting, bulky phosphors through efficient nano-sized particles, resulting in higher efficiency and better color for displays and lighting.
The key ingredient for blue LEDs is nitride, a robust material with a large energy separation, or gap, between electrons and holes -- this gap is crucial in tuning the energy of the emitted photons to produce blue light.
