You are opening a csv file in Microsoft Excel and are seeing incorrect, or garbled characters, such a é, ü, Å, etc. This could be because the CSV file is UTF-8-encoded. CDD uses UTF-8 because it is the de-facto standard for information exchange in modern applications.
By default, the escape character is a " (double quote) for CSV-formatted files. If you want to use a different escape character, use the ESCAPE clause of COPY , CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE or gpload to declare a different escape character.
When working with a CSV file it is often necessary to find data contained within and sometimes replace it. Find & Replace is used for just this. You can access it from the Edit > Find & Replace menu or by pressing Ctrl-F on the keyboard.
There are no restrictions on what characters you can use in a CSV file.
