Use Lock Drawing Mode. To lock a shape you need to go to the auto shapes menu, right click on the shape and choose "Lock Drawing Mode" option. The cursor turns into a cross. You can draw the shape as many times as you want without the cursor reverting to its original form.

You can do this by choosing Shape Format>Edit Points. Right-click on one of the bottom corners and choose Open Path. This creates an extra point. Right-click on the point between the 2 bottom points and choose Delete Point.
