This is because a subsidy is used to keep the cost of production down.
Disadvantages of Subsidies Shortage of supply. Though one of the advantages of subsidies is the greater supply of goods, a shortage of supply can also occur. Difficulty in measuring success. Subsidies are usually effective and helpful. Higher taxes. How will the government raise funds to use for subsidizing industries?
A subsidy will shift the supply curve to the right and therefore lower the equilibrium price in a market. The aim of the subsidy is to encourage production of the good and it has the effect of shifting the supply curve to the right (shifting it vertically downwards by the amount of the subsidy).
Because total surplus in a market is lower under a subsidy than in a free market, the conclusion is that subsidies create economic inefficiency, known as deadweight loss.
A subsidy is a direct or indirect payment to individuals or firms, usually in the form of a cash payment from the government or a targeted tax cut. In economic theory, subsidies can be used to offset market failures and externalities to achieve greater economic efficiency.
When government subsidies are implemented to the supplier, an industry is able to allow its producers to produce more goods and services. This increases the overall supply of that good or service, which increases the quantity demanded of that good or service and lowers the overall price of the good or service.

The principal arguments against subsidies are as follows: ii. The maximum benefit of subsidisation of inputs is reaped only by large farmers, who possess the capacity to buy inputs at higher prices. iii. Input subsidies tax the budgetary capacity of the government.
Cash subsidies simply entail the government giving a sum of cash directly to a business or organization. One example of a common cash subsidy in the U.S. can be found in the renewable energy industrycash subsidies are given to private businesses in the renewable energy sector to stimulate the growth of that industry.
