How to Connect via SSH Open the SSH terminal on your machine and run the following command: ssh yourusername@hostipaddress. Type in your password and hit Enter. When you are connecting to a server for the very first time, it will ask you if you want to continue connecting.
Access Windows SSH Client By default, the OpenSSH client will be located in the directory: C:\Windows\System32\OpenSSH . You can also check that it is installed in Windows Settings Apps Optional features, then search for OpenSSH in your installed features.
PuTTY is a client program for SSH (in addition to Telnet and Rlogin); it is not a part of or otherwise based on OpenSSH. Consequently, PuTTY does not have native support for reading OpenSSHs SSH-2 private key files.
OpenSSH provides secure encryption for both remote login and file transfer. Some of the utilities that it includes are: ssh, a z/OS client program for logging into a z/OS shell. It can also be used to log into other platforms UNIX shells.
PuTTY has long been the most popular SSH client used on Windows, but since the last major update, Windows 10 now comes with an SSH client preinstalled. Its easier and faster to use this client rather than installing and configuring PuTTY.
PuTTY is a free implementation of SSH (and telnet) for PCs running Microsoft Windows (it also includes an xterm terminal emulator). You will find PuTTY useful if you want to access an account on a Unix or other multi-user system from a PC (for example your own or one in an internet cafe).
The advantages of the PuTTY key format are: Public half of key is stored in plaintext. OpenSSHs private key format encrypts the entire key file, so that the client has to ask you for your passphrase before it can do anything with the key at all.
Uninstall OpenSSH for Windows Open Settings, then go to Apps Apps Features. Go to Optional Features. In the list, select OpenSSH Client or OpenSSH Server. Select Uninstall.
