To send certified mail, you need a certified mail form and a return receipt. Contact University Prints and Mail Services for certified mail supplies. Fill out the certified mail form and place it in box two on the return receipt. For small envelopes, place a certified mail form in the top center and leave a space for postage. Write the delivery address and your school or department name on the form. Address the return receipt with recipient's name and address in box one, check certified mail in box three, and write your return address on the back for the receipt.

What are the characteristics of Registered Mail and Registered Mail Restricted Delivery? The most secure United States Postal Service mail service (protected by safes, cages, sealed containers, locks, and keys). Must be presented to a retail employee or rural carrier. Requires a signature upon delivery.
Certified mail provides the sender proof that the shipment was mailed and when its delivered. On the other hand, registered mail provides the sender package updates from every step of the shipment process. This distinction means you have more security knowing that more eyes and hands are looking out for your parcel.
How much does USPS Certified Mail cost? USPS Certified Mail costs $3.75, in addition to the postage needed to mail your item. If you want to add a return receipt, that is an additional $3.05 for a mail receipt or $1.85 for an electronic receipt.
Certified Mail delivers in the same timeframe as First Class or Priority Mail. Yet, due to the security measures during transport and handling, Registered Mail travels slower the usual. If you need secure, but not fast delivery, use Registered Mail over Certified.
Please note that due to the tight security provided for Registered Mail, it may take 1014 days for your shipment to arrive at its destination.
Unlike Certified Mail which is sent with regular mail, Registered mail is sent separately and usually takes longer to arrive. Due to the extra tracking, Registered Mail was more expensive and is typically used to send valuables and important documents since its a more secure type of mail.

Mailers typically use certified mail when they need to provide proof that a mailpiece was sent and received. The most common uses of Certified Mail are to send tax returns, bank documents, and time-sensitive communications with debtors or creditors.
