Free accounts can encrypt local files on two devices and link a single cloud storage provider directly to Boxcryptor. However, each installation of Boxcryptor is limited to a single location, meaning youll have to choose between linking a cloud storage service and encrypting a local folder.
How to encrypt a file Right-click (or press and hold) a file or folder and select Properties. Select the Advanced button and select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box. Select OK to close the Advanced Attributes window, select Apply, and then select OK.
If you have used EFS or a third-party software to encrypt a file, you may be able to unlock it using its file properties. Right-click the file in File Explorer, select Advanced and then clear the Encrypt Contents to Secure Data check box. If this does not work, contact the software provider.
With simple file-sharing, powerful security, and support for over 30 leading cloud platforms, its safe to say that Boxcryptor will be plenty-strong and reliable for the majority of users.
All files uploaded to Drive or created in Docs are encrypted in transit and at rest with AES256 bit encryption. For additional confidentiality, your organization can allow you to encrypt Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides files with Workspace Client-side encryption.
We use open source software in many situations: across platforms in the Boxcryptor apps, in the Boxcryptor Crypto Server, and for boxcryptor.com.
Boxcryptor is free to use with one cloud storage provider on two devices. As a single user you can boost your range of features with an upgrade. You get unlimited devices, unlimited providers and advanced security with filename encryption.
All free licenses will be cancelled by 01/31/2023. Customers who have one of our paid subscriptions - Boxcryptor Personal, Business, Company and Enterprise - will also receive an email with a notice of termination at the end of the respective contract period, stating the last day of use.
