Transcription is the first step in gene expression. It involves copying a genes DNA sequence to make an RNA molecule. Transcription is performed by enzymes called RNA polymerases, which link nucleotides to form an RNA strand (using a DNA strand as a template).
Genome combines all distinct genes present in an organism, whereas transcriptome is all transcribed RNAs present in the organism. The cells of the organism have the same genomes, whereas the cells have different transcriptomes present.
A transcriptome is the full range of messenger RNA, or mRNA, molecules expressed by an organism. The term transcriptome can also be used to describe the array of mRNA transcripts produced in a particular cell or tissue type.
Definition. Transcription, as related to genomics, is the process of making an RNA copy of a genes DNA sequence. This copy, called messenger RNA (mRNA), carries the genes protein information encoded in DNA.
While most genes are associated with multiple transcripts, each transcript is only assigned to a single gene (at least in databases). In other words, different genes never share the same transcript.
Listen to pronunciation. (tran-SKRIP-shun) In biology, the process by which a cell makes an RNA copy of a piece of DNA. This RNA copy, called messenger RNA (mRNA), carries the genetic information needed to make proteins in a cell.
Gene is a genomic sequence that consists of 2 types of regions- sequences that are expressed or encoded as RNA i.e. transcript, called as exons alternating with regions that are not encoded in the RNA/transcript called as introns.
An RNA transcript is the RNA strand that is produced when a gene is transcribed. Precursor mRNA (pre-RNA) is one type of RNA transcript. Pre-mRNA is processed into mature mRNA which in turn is translated into a protein.
