Hi, Im Rob. Welcome to Math Antics! In this lesson, were going to talk about the Distributive Property, which is a really useful tool in Algebra. And if you watched our video called The Distributive Property in Arithmetic, then you already know the basics of how the Distributive Property works. The key idea is that the Distributive Property allows you to take a factor and distribute it to each member of a group of things that are being added or subtracted. Instead of multiplying the factor by the entire group as a whole, you can distribute it to be multiplied by each member of the group individually. And in that previous video, we saw how you can take a problem like: 3 times the group (4 + 6) and simplify it two different ways. You could either simplify what was in the group first, OR you could use the distributive property to distribute a copy of the factor 3 to each member of the group, and no matter which way you go, you get the same answer. But in Algebra, things are a little

Distributive Property Fractions Multiply the term on the outside of the parenthesis by the first term on the inside of the parenthesis. Continue multiplying the outside term by each term inside until all terms inside the parentheses have been multiplied.
What is the rule for the distributive property? ing to the distributive property, multiplying the sum of two or more addends by a number produces the same result as when each addend is multiplied individually by the number and the products are added together.

distributive law, also called distributive property, in mathematics, the law relating the operations of multiplication and addition, stated symbolically as a(b + c) = ab + ac; that is, the monomial factor a is distributed, or separately applied, to each term of the binomial factor b + c, resulting in the product ab +
In algebra, distribution means to spread out terms equally across an expression. We refer to what were doing as the distributive property, which can be defined as a(b + c) = ab + ac. Why do we distribute? Its a way of simplifying expressions.

The order of operations can be remembered by the acronym PEMDAS, which stands for: parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division from left to right, and addition and subtraction from left to right. First, simplify what is in parentheses. Then, do any exponents. Next, multiply and divide from left to right.
