Hi, Im Rob. Welcome to Math Antics! In this lesson, were going to talk about the Distributive Property, which is a really useful tool in Algebra. And if you watched our video called The Distributive Property in Arithmetic, then you already know the basics of how the Distributive Property works. The key idea is that the Distributive Property allows you to take a factor and distribute it to each member of a group of things that are being added or subtracted. Instead of multiplying the factor by the entire group as a whole, you can distribute it to be multiplied by each member of the group individually. And in that previous video, we saw how you can take a problem like: 3 times the group (4 + 6) and simplify it two different ways. You could either simplify what was in the group first, OR you could use the distributive property to distribute a copy of the factor 3 to each member of the group, and no matter which way you go, you get the same answer. But in Algebra, things are a little

Distributing items is an act of spreading them out equally. Algebraic distribution means to multiply each of the terms within the parentheses by another term that is outside the parentheses. To distribute a term over several other terms, you multiply each of the other terms by the first term.
Division in maths is the process of breaking a number up into equal parts, and finding out how many equal parts can be made. For example, dividing 15 by 3 means splitting 15 into 3 equal groups of 5.
To apply the distributive property to an algebraic expression, you multiply each term inside the parentheses by the number or variable outside the parentheses. For example, to simplify 2(x + 3), you would multiply 2 by both x and 3, resulting in 2x + 6.
Expand the equation. Multiply (distribute) the first numbers of each set, outer numbers of each set, inner numbers of each set, and the last numbers of each set. Combine like terms. Solve the equation and simplify, if needed.
Division equations are mathematical equations that involve the division operator. A complete division equation includes an equals sign. One side will have the division operator and the numbers that are being divided. The other side shows what the division is equal to.
