Rule of thumb: if a class implements IDisposable you should always call the Dispose method as soon as you have finished using this resource. Even better wrap it in a using statement to ensure that the Dispose method will be called even if an exception is thrown: using (var reader = conn. ExecuteReader()) { }
Public Dispose() : This method will be called by the consumer of the object when resources are to be released. This method will invoke the Dispose(bool disposing) method.
A DataSet is made up of a collection of tables, relationships, and constraints. In ADO.NET, DataTable objects are used to represent the tables in a DataSet. A DataTable represents one table of in-memory relational data; the data is local to the .
IDisposable is defined in the System namespace. It provides a mechanism for releasing unmanaged resources. When your application or class library encapsulates unmanaged resources such as files, fonts, streams, database connections, etc, they should implement the IDisposable interface or the IAsyncDisposable interface.
DataSet comprises one or many dataset tables which have the in-memory feature. DataTable holds a single or unit database table that has an in-memory feature. DataSet is formed collectively of datatables. DataTable is composed of multiple rows and columns to have better access to data.
IDisposable has only one method that is Dispose method. We can use the dispose method for the same purpose to clean up the unmanaged resources. So when you are done with your object then simply call the dispose method. Let us take an example that will implement the Dispose method of IDisposable interface.
DataSet and DataTable both implement IDisposable, so, by conventional best practices, I should call their Dispose() methods.
DataSet and DataTable dont actually have any unmanaged resources, so Dispose() doesnt actually do much. The Dispose() methods in DataSet and DataTable exists ONLY because of side effect of inheritance - in other words, it doesnt actually do anything useful in the finalization.
If you access unmanaged resources (e.g. files, database connections etc.) in a class, you should implement IDisposable and overwrite the Dispose method to allow you to control when the memory is freed.
Clear() and DataTable. Rows. Clear() will just delete all rows from datatable but not the columns. They both perform same function except that One is defined in dataTable class and second one is defined in DataRowCollection class.
