In short, no. Just because youve paid a collection account does not mean it will automatically be removed from your credit report. Similar to a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing, a paid collection account will stay on your credit history for up to seven years, even if you ask major credit bureaus to remove it.
Pay the bill, even without a pay-for-delete offer. If you are able to get a pay-for-delete from a collection agency, it may help your credit. But the delinquent account with the original creditor will still remain on your credit report. A collection account paid in full reflects better on your credit report.
As a result, pay for delete is really iffy, even if a collector says theyll do it. They may remove the collection account from your report right after the settlement. However, then it can reappear later. If it does, you have no legal recourse because the collection account was reported accurately.
We cannot control the timing within which the credit reporting agencies process our request, but it typically takes up to 45 days after payment for the tradeline deletion request to be processed.
Theres no concrete answer to this question because every credit report is unique, and it will depend on how much the collection is currently affecting your credit score. If it has reduced your credit score by 100 points, removing it will likely boost your score by 100 points.
Unless the information reported to the credit bureaus is incorrect, you wont be able to remove the settled account from your credit report. You can try to negotiate with the creditor, but legally the debt can stay on your credit report, regardless of payment status.
You can ask the creditor either the original creditor or a debt collector for whats called a goodwill deletion. Write the collector a letter explaining your circumstances and why you would like the debt removed, such as if youre about to apply for a mortgage.
Yes, it can work, but be warned that the overall success rate of such letters is generally low. Additionally, the latest credit scoring models (FICO 9, VantageScore 3.0) ignore collection accounts that have been paid, making a pay for delete letter unnecessary if you pay off your debt.
