were in office 365 from Microsoft Im going to show you how to assign a license to a user if you are the administrator and we can just go ahead and click in the upper left hand corner and you should see this admin box if you dont see it that means youre not the administrator so you need to make sure youre logged in as the administrator and get those credentials over to the center section we see users and were going to edit a user lets go ahead and click on users and from here were going to see a user that doesnt have a license they may have an email address but they dont have a license so they cant do anything with it so were gonna click on that user and then were going to go to mail settings and it says here this user doesnt have an exchange online license so we need to assign that license for them so lets go up to where it says product licenses and click Edit and were gonna see a lot of different licenses depending on what youve purchased so we have a lot of differen

In the admin center, go to the Billing Your products page, and select the Products tab. Select the subscription from which you want to remove licenses. On the details page, select Remove licenses.
Go to the Office 365 admin center. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select User management. Select the employee that you want to block, and then choose Licenses and Apps. On the Licenses and Apps page, un-check the box next to the subscription to remove the license and click Save changes.
After converting the user mailbox to a shared mailbox, you can remove the license from the users account. Without a license, shared mailboxes are limited to 50 GB.
On the device where you want to change the key, open any Office app, select the File menu and then select Account near the bottom of the menu. Under Product Information, select the Change License button. If there is no Change License button, you may need to Office updates.
A shared mailbox doesnt require a license unless you will be using more than 50GB. If you exceed the storage limit, you need to license the mailbox, which increases your storage capacity to 100GB. Permission to access the mailbox must be expressly given to each user. All users must have domain-based email.

When you remove the license, all that users data is held for 30 days. You can access the data, or restore the account if the user comes back. After 30 days, all the users data (except for documents stored on SharePoint Online) is deleted permanently from Office 365 and cant be recovered.
Can you mix E3 and E5 licenses? Yes, you can combine Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 plans within a single account to meet your organizations needs. However, while you mix plans, you cannot change the existing limitations on their number of users.
Select the shared mailbox. One the Licenses and Apps tab, expand Licenses and uncheck the box for the license you want to remove. Select Save changes. When you return to the Active users page, the status of the shared mailbox will be Unlicensed.
