Hi. Its Mr. Andersen and this AP Physics essentials video 43. It is on free-body diagrams which are what they sound like. It is essentially drawing a diagram of a body removed from its environment and all the forces that are acting on that. But before we draw some of those I want to give you a thought problem. Imagine we have a scale on a platform and you just simply stand on it. So we figure out your weight. What do you think would happen to your weight if we angled that platform? Is it going to remain the same? Are you going to weigh less? Are you going to weigh more? What if we make it even steeper? Well I tried this. I stood on a scale. And so this is my weight. And then I put it on a platform. And I used my iPhone to figure out that this is around a 17 degree angle. And you can see that my weight got less. And so that seems kind of magical. It would be a great way to lose weight. But what is really going on there, you have to draw a free-body diagram. So I am the object sitting

Most metal seals create tight seals through a concept known as plastic deformation. This is accomplished by utilizing a so outer coating, such as PTFE, gold or silver, and then applying a specific amount of force to deform the outer layer into the mating hardware as shown.
The seal produced by metal-to-metal contact between the sealing face of the seat ring and the closure elements, without benefit of a synthetic seal.
Spring energized C-rings have a spring contained within the inner diameter of the c-ring. When the C-ring is compressed the C-ring material is pressed into the sealing surfaces of the part, deforming to fill surface imperfections and creating a tight seal.
By Rebecca Phan (March 2021) Rotary lip seals are critical machine components that can dramatically extend the services lives of bearings and oscillating/rotating shafts by maintaining optimal lubricant levels and mitigating exposure to contaminants.
Oil Seals are used to seal around a rotating shaft and keep an oil-based lubricant inside an axle, engine, etc. Grease seals are used to seal more viscous grease lubricants in rotary shaft applications.
Oil seals are one of the major contact type sealing devices. prevent entry of dust and foreign matter (dirt, water, metal powder, etc.) from outside. Oil seals come in various shapes to fit the machine or substance for sealing.
Oil Seal Material Chart Aflas (TFE/P) Carboxylated Nitrile (XNBR) Viton (Fluoropolymer FKM) Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) or Highly Saturated Nitrile (HSN) Nitrile (NBR) Buna-N Low-Temp. Polyacrylate (ACM)
Metal-to-metal seals easily outperform elastomers in this regard, providing effective seals beyond 25,000 psi. Since metal-to-metal seals offer required fatigue-resistance and sealing characteristics, they are widely used for the most demanding high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
The main functions of a lip seal (also known as a radial or rotary seal, which well come to shortly) are to retain lubricants, remove contaminants, confine pressure and separate fluids.
A rotary seal, also known as a radial shaft seal, typically sits between a rotary shaft and a fixed housing such as a cylinder wall to stop fluid leaking along the shaft. The rotary seals outside surface is fixed to the housing, while the seals inner lip presses against the rotating shaft.
