The third principal ray occurs when the light goes straight through the vertex without changing its direction.
Rules for Obtaining Images Formed by a Concave Mirror A ray coming parallel to the principal axis is reflected through the principal focus of the concave mirror. The ray of light passing the principal focus becomes parallel to the principal axis after being reflected from the mirror.
The three principal rays which are used for visualizing the image location and size are: A ray from the top of the object proceeding parallel to the centerline perpendicular to the lens. A ray through the center of the lens, which will be undeflected.
