Eye exercises to improve vision have been around since the 1920s, when maverick ophthalmologist William Horatio Bates, MD, created a program of eye exercises that became known as the Bates Method. The Bates Method has never been proven effective in providing docHub or lasting vision improvement.
Bates began teaching his patients to stop wearing their glasses. He taught them natural methods, relaxation, correct use of the eyes/vision, practice of normal, natural eye function (movement) to improve the vision to 20/20 and better. Dr. Bates cured his own eyesight, close vision, presbyopia.
As stated on the Bates Method website: The Bates Method seeks to improve, short-sightedness (myopia), astigmatism, long-sightedness (hyperopia), and old-age blur (presbyopia). They employ their own techniques of Palming, Sunning, Visualization, and Eye Movements.
For centuries, people have promoted eye exercises as a natural cure for vision problems, including eyesight. Theres very little credible scientific evidence suggesting that eye exercises can improve vision. However, exercises can help with eyestrain and may help your eyes feel better.
As stated on the Bates Method website: The Bates Method seeks to improve, short-sightedness (myopia), astigmatism, long-sightedness (hyperopia), and old-age blur (presbyopia). They employ their own techniques of Palming, Sunning, Visualization, and Eye Movements.
ing to Bates, when a patient remembers a letter or sees a letter perfectly and continuously without any volition on the part of the patient, it appears to move in a slow, short, easy swing. Bates called this the Short (or Optical) Swing.
Bates suggested closing the eyes for minutes at a time to help bring about relaxation. He asserted that the relaxation could be deepened in most cases by palming, or covering the closed eyes with the palms of the hands, without putting pressure on the eyeballs.
General research No evidence was found that such techniques could objectively benefit eyesight, though some studies noted changes, both positive and negative, in the visual acuity of nearsighted subjects as measured by a Snellen chart. In some cases noted improvements were maintained at subsequent follow-ups.
There is not much scientific evidence to suggest that eye exercises help improve vision in general. However, eye exercises and vision therapy can help with digital eye strain and certain eye conditions. A person can easily perform eye exercises such as the 20-20-20 rule, figure 8, and pencil pushups at home.
This study concluded that both Bates eye exercises therapy and Trataka Yoga Kriya in reducing refractive errors in myopia were not effective. There was no docHub improvement found postintervention in the refractive errors and visual acuity among both the groups.
