I know if some of you have a fair amount of experience with this with this artform and some maybe not so much I hope I dont repeat too much or start to basically for everybody but a little patience I just want to make sure that we all kind of start in the same place at least and when I use a term for a design or part of one we all understand what it is Im saying so Ill start out pretty basic and we only have the two short sessions so well have to zip along kind of fast and we wont be able to do everything that it would be nice to cover but Ill try to at least share some thoughts and ideas that Ive had over the years about putting these kinds of designs together based on looking at the old work and hopefully that will be able to derive some benefit from that that youd be able to apply it to what you do yourselves I learned this little by little starting when I was a teenager growing up in Seattle and for some inexplicable reason I had never got quite as interested in anything e

When you describe something you see, you use words that tell about the lines, shapes, colors, textures, and spaces. Line, shape, color, texture, and space are the basic elements of design.
The primary elements of form are points, lines, planes and volumes each one growing from the other. A point is a position in space, a line is the extension of a point. A surface or plan, is the extension of a line.
Lines are everywhere in design, they are used to divide space, direct the users eye, create flow, create emphasis and organize all design elements into form. Generally, we dont think about lines that much, but we make use of them quite often to visually communicate our objective to the user.
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN PART 1: LINE Horizontal Line. Lines applied horizontally often evoke feelings of stability, grounding, emphasis and direction. Vertical Line. Vertical lines are often associated with strength (think pillar of strength), stability, balance, and elevation. Diagonal Line. Curved Line.
This week were talking about line horizontal, vertical, curving, diagonal; each has an impact on how you perceive space. Lines can also be combined to create shapes and planes, or form but thats for another post.
Line. Often the starting point for all artistic expression, the line is one of the most essential elements of design. It always has more length than thickness, and can be unbroken, broken, or implied. A line can be vertical, diagonal, horizontal, and even curved.
Form refers to the positive element over the space of your work. Together with space, it creates a three-dimensional effect. The 3D objects include pyramids, cubes, and other abstract forms. You can make a 3D effect by using shadows, color, and overlaid objects.
In design, a line is any two connected points. These lines can be straight or curved, and may be smooth, rough, continuous, broken, thick, or thin. A line creates division and hierarchy within your design, helping direct the users eye toward specific information or a specific focal point.
